"P****, sayang!" --- James Yap on his missed three-point shot in overtime that could have won the game for Rain or Shine and would've given him 10,000 points for his career.
James Yap's quest for 10,000 career points continues, but it would have ended on Wednesday during Rain or Shine eventual double-overtime loss to NLEX in the 2017 PBA Governors' Cup.
Tied at 110-all with two seconds to go in the first overtime, Yap ended up missing a straightaway three at the buzzer.
Not only was that supposed to hand the Elasto Painters a strong victory, those three points would have allowed the former two-time league MVP to reach an incredible milestone.
Seventeen points short of 10,000 entering the game, Yap only managed 14 against the Road Warriors.
And although he already stated in previous interviews that he doesn't think about it much, Yap was definitely triggered after he was reminded that his missed game-winning three would have allowed him to finall reach 10k.
"Three points away na lang ako?" Yap said post-game.
"Yun pala, yung dapat yung last shot. P****, sayang! Wala eh, buti sana kung pumasok, nagulat sana ako. Panalo na tapos nakuha ko pa [10,000]," he added.
Missing out on capturing the elusive milestone, Yap is looking forward to ending his chase in Rain or Shine's next game three days from now at Antipolo City.
But still, his focus is on helping the Elasto Painters win and not scoring 10,000 points.
However, he admits that he's actually pretty excited now that he's oh so close.
"Sayang nga. Yung last shoe sana, sayang di ko napasok. Sa Ynares [Center] na lang pero hindi ko dapat isipin yun," Yap said.
"Three points na lang tapos mamaya hindi pa tayo maka-shoot di ba? Yan yung mahirap, pag palapit nang palapit, minsan masama e. Magkakagigil pa. Na-experience na natin yan e," he added.
