"In the upcoming NBA season I think the guy that will finally resemble Scottie Thompson will be Lonzo Ball." --- Tim Cone on Scottie Thompson and Lonzo Ball.
Ginebra head coach Tim Cone has previously compared Scottie Thompson to 2017 NBA MVP Russell Westbrook for his insane ability to gobble up on rebounds from the guard spot.
However, it appears that Cone may have found a more suitable NBA alter ego for the Great Scott.
And Thompson would probaly love it considering he's a huge Lakers fan.
Yes that's right, Scottie Thompson reminds Tim Cone of Los Angeles rookie Lonzo Ball.
"In the upcoming NBA season I think the guy that will finally resemble Scottie Thompson will be Lonzo Ball," Cone said on Wednesday after the Gin Kings blasted hapless Kia in the Governors' Cup.
"I watched him [Lonzo] in the Summer League and he reminded me so much of Scottie. The things he does, they don't shoot the same way but the way when he started passing the ball, the whole team started passing the ball," he added.
Against the Picanto, Ginebra recorded an incredible 39 assists, most in 14 years, and Thompson was at the front of running the Gin Kings' offense, dropping 10 dimes.
Cone says Scottie's willingness to make the pass and make the better play is the same as what Lonzo brings to the Lakers.
"Th Lakers were fun to watch because the ball was moving like crazy," the two-time Grand Slam coach said.
"They're very similar in their styles. Scottie is big for his position as well as Lonzo Ball. I think the more you'll see him [Ball] the more he reminds you of Scottie. It's that infectious attitude that he brings to the team," he added.
One thing that is different between Scottie and Lonzo is their fathers. Cone is relieved that Scott's old man is not the LaVar type.
"Thank God. I'm glad Mr. Thompson isn't around all over the place yelling at me," Cone joked.
