GET READY FOR THE NEXT BATTLE. Jimmy Alapag will take on his first-ever head coaching job with Alab Pilipinas.
Jimmy Alapag has a new mountain to climb.
The longtime national team captain will now be tasked to call the shots for a different kind of Philippine team.
Alapag was named on Saturday as the new mentor for Alab Pilipinas for the looming 2017-2018 Asean Basketball League.
The 39-year-old takes over for Mac Cuan who guided the Filipinos to a semifinal finish in their maiden campaign a year ago.
This will be Alapag’s first head coaching job, after having served as assistant coach for both Gilas Pilipinas and Meralco in the past couple of years.
“The Mighty Mouse” won six championships and one MVP award in the PBA. He played 13 years for TNT and then two years for the Bolts.
He also stood as the longtime leader for the national team, all while being listed at just five-foot nine-inches.
Now with Alab, Alapag will still have Cuan by his side to help with his new mountain to climb.
The Philippines will once again see action in the ABL commencing later in the year. All of the action will still be on S+A, S+A HD, and sports.abs-cbn.com/livestream/abl.
