Team captain Gerald Anderson poured in a game-high 42 points as he led Team Gerald Anderson Blue to a 93-90 win over Team Daniel Padilla Red at the Star Magic All Star Game, Sunday afternoon at the Araneta Coliseum.
Anderson, who was looking to avenge his team's loss in last year's exhibition game, did a little bit of everything, from calling plays and setting his teammates up to putting points on the board, as the Team Blue jumped to a 43-35 lead at halftime.
Team Blue continued to control the pace in the third quarter, leading by as much as 16, behind the efforts of Anderson, 'Young JV' Kapunan, and JC De Vera, who finished the game with 12 and eight points respectively.
Team Red began to show life in the final frame, with revelation Ronnie Alonte leading the charge.
Alonte, who finished with a team-high 38 markers helped pull to within six points, midway into the fourth quarter.
Former La Salle standout Axel Torres, older brother of two-time UAAP champion Thomas Torres, helped Team Red pull to within three points in the final 26.5 seconds of the match.
The night belonged to eventual All Star Game MVP Gerald Anderson however, as he broke down the Team Red defense with a slick spin move and drained a floater with 20 ticks remaining to push Team Blue's leas back up to 91-86.
Free throws from De Vera iced the game for Team Blue, before Padilla drained the final shot of the contest, a buzzer-beating triple to close the score at 93-90 for Team Gerald Anderson.
Team Red team captain Padilla scored 16 points in the losing effort, and was named to the Mythical Five, along with teammates Alonte and Zanjoe Marudo, and Team Blue's Anderson and Young JV.
