What would Gilas do without Gabe Norwood?
Despite being the oldest player in the Gilas lineup, Gabe Norwood plays more minutes than any other Filipino player in Lebanon. (FIBA)

It's easy to forget how big of a role Gabe Norwood has in Gilas Pilipinas.

He will not wow you with 26-point games like Terrence Romeo, he will *probably* not make seven three-point shots in a game like Matthew Wright (you can't even make him shoot seven times in a game), and he doesn't have blinding speed like Jayson Castro.

Gabe though, is a master at doing the dirty work for the Philippines, making the little things that if you put them all together, Gilas Pilipinas will most likely lose without them.

Whether it's locking down the opposing team's best player, blocking the opposing team's shot at a crucial basket, or giving the Philippines more than a couple of extra possessions, Norwood has you covered.

Oh and if you want some wow plays, Gabe, at 32 years old, can still elevate for that thunderous jam every now and then.

If you need tangible proof, just look at Norwood's stats in the 2017 FIBA-Asia Cup for a quick minute.

Despite a late addition to the team, the veteran forward has emerged as a key piece in the Philippines' ongoing campaign to regain Asian basketball supremacy.

He's been an all-around beast througout preliminary play, going for 7.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.7 blocks per game.

Going further, Norwood is third in the team in terms of player efficiency behind Christian Standhardinger and Matthew Wright. He's also a team-high plus 15 in point differential.

Gilas Pilipinas is basically in good shape when Gabe Norwood plays.

However, perhaps the best Gabe Norwood stat so far is him averaging 26.9 minutes per game, number 1 in Gilas Pilipinas.

Despite being the oldest player in the lineup, Norwood logs more minutes than anyone on the Philippine team.

Norwood has literally been fighting for 10 years now with the sole purpose of helping the Philippines regain its rightful place on top of Asia.

So maybe do the guy a favor and do not forget just how big of a role he plays for Gilas Pilipinas.
