SWEEP! The Hawkeyes beat the CEU Scorpions to win the 2017 PBA D-League Foundation Cup.
Even without Most Valuable Player Raymar Jose, Cignal HD proved to be too much against Centro Escolar University.
The Hawkeyes swept the 2017 PBA D-League season, beating the Scorpions Thursday in Game 2 of the Finals, 79-69, to win the Foundation Cup at the Ynares Sports Center in Pasig.
After a blowout in Game 1, Cignal turned Game 2 in the second period after outscoring CEU by 10 points to head to the break up by 15.
The Scorpions desperately tried to rally in the second half but CEU never broke the double-digit barrier as the Hawkeyes swept the series, 2-0.
Cignal won the Aspirant's Cup earlier in the year after beating Racal in three games.
"Nobody expected us to win a champinship. Lineup namin pabago-bago. But again, it's really the effort of the players who want to win the championship," head coach Boyet Fernandez said.
"I will not be able to do thos if not for the players so credit to them," he added.
The Hawkeyes had another balanced scoring effort against the Scorpions with Chris Sumalinog and Harold Arboleda leading the way after finishing with 13 points apiece.
Jonathan Uyloan added 11 points for Cignal.
Rodrigue Ebondo powered CEU with 20 points and nine rebounds in a losing effort.
