The PBA will honor the Gilas Pilipinas SEA Games team on Manila Clasico Sunday. The league will also recognize the Gilas crew that competed in the FIBA-Asia Cup.
The Philippines Basketball Association will honor the two National teams on Sunday for making its mark in the recent Southeast Asian Games and FIBA Asia Cup.
PBA Commissiner Chito Narvasa will preside over the brief and simple ceremony at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
“These two teams made us proud. They showcased their ability in the face of adversity and, in the process achieved an incredible milestone in the SEA Games and the FIBA Asia Cup,” said Narvasa.
“What our Gilas Pilipinas achieved speaks well of their great character and passion to represent the country. And for that were are thankful,” added Narvasa, who also commended the other people involved with the National team.
Led by Baser Amer, Troy Rosario, and Bryan Cruz, the Gilas Cadets went undefeated in the SEA Games.
They capped their dominance with a lopsided win over Indonesia in the finals as the Philippines won its 12 straight basketball gold in the biennial event.
Equally impressive was the team led by Jason Castro and Terrence Romeo that campaigned in FIBA Asia Cup in Beirut, Lebanon.
Although it missed the medal play, their 3-0 sweep in the preliminaries that included a 96-87 win over China certainly drew a lot of attention here and abroad.
Completing the Sea Games team coached by Jong Uichico are Kiefer Ravena, Bobby Ray Parks, Brayan Cruz, Christian Standhardinger, Kobe Paras, Reymar Jose, Almond Vosotros, Kevin Ferrer, and Von Pessumal.
Beside Castro and Romeo, the Lebanon team also include Gabe Norwood, Jio Jalalon, Calvin Abueva, Matthew Wright, Brayan Cruz, Christian Standhardinger, Jun Mar Fajardo, Roger Pogoy, Raymond Almazan and Japeth Aguilar. Head coach is Chot Reyes.
