Andray Blatche vs. the Philippines. Who would have thought.
After initially having no representatives to the FIBA Asia Champions Cup, the Philippines has been awarded a wild card slot after Japanese Club SunRockers Shibuya had to withdraw from the competition.
According to FIBA, the Philippines, under the banner of Gilas Pilipinas backer Chooks-to-Go, will be the replacement, completing the 10-team tournament that will take place on September 22-30 in China.
Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas will be in Group A with BC Astana (Kazakhstan), Mono Vampire (Thailand), Petrochimi (Iran), and Sarreyet Ramallah (Palestine).
Group B will be composed of Al Shabab Al Ahli (UAE), ONGC (India), Al Riyadi (Lebanon), Dacin Tigers (Taipei), and defending champion China Kashgar.
Speaking of China Kashgar, Andray Blatche is in the lineup and a matchup with the Philippines is looming in the next round.
The top 4 from each group will advance to the quarterfinals.
Last year, Blatche led the same team to the title after averaging almost 20 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists.
As of right now, Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas will be bannered by Christian Standhardiner, Kiefer Ravena, Ray Parks, Jeron Teng, and Raymar Jose.
