Ginebra outlasts Rain or Shine to regain solo first
Ginebra moved past rival Meralco on top of the standings with an 8-2 mark.

It didn't take long for Barangay Ginebra to regain its lost bearings and solo first place in the ongoing 2017 Governors' Cup.

The defending champion Gin Kings overcome a tough Rain or Shine crew, 89-82, Saturday at the MOA Arena inching closer to a sure twice-to-beat edge in the quarterfinals.

Ginebra moved past rival Meralco on top of the standings with an 8-2 mark.

Taking a 16-point lead in the third period, the Gin Kings looked like they were on their way to an easy win before the Elasto Painters rallied to keep the ending interesting.

However, Ginebra would hold strong in the end behind the combined efforts of Justin Brownlee and LA Tenorio.

Brownlee led the defending champs with 28 points and 10 rebounds while Tenorio added 16.

ROS, who dropped to 5-4 and is yet to formalized its entry in the playoffs, got 20 points from Raymond Almazan.

The scores:

GINEBRA 89 – Brownlee 28, Tenorio 16, Thompson 12, Slaughter 12, Mercado 9, Devance 7, Ferrer 5, Aguilar 0, Caguioa 0
