ANTIPOLO --- Allein Maliksi wasted little time making an impact for Blackwater.

Starting in his very first game with the Elite after he got traded from Star, Maliksi powered Blackwater to its second PBA playoff appearance ever after beating Globalport Batang Pier in a shootout, 118-107, Sunday at the Ynares Center here.

Maliksi dropped a team-high 22 points on top of five boards in almost 35 minutes of play, anchoring the Elite's breakaway in the middle quarters.

The former Grand Slam champion scored 15 in the second and third periods as Blackwater took a commanding 21-point lead early in the second half, enough of a cushion to hold off the Batang Pier's furious rally in the final 12 minutes.

Maliksi, who was admittedly sad after leaving his team of four years in the Hotshots, said that it's all about taking advantage of his bigger role with the Elite.

"Sa Star alam ko yung role ko dun eh, dito kailangan ko mas maging aggressive kasi kailangan ko din mag-lead by example for the other guys." he said.

"I'm trying my best to speak out sa mga little things na kailangan namin gawin sa court. Yung mga natutunan ko sa mga dati kong napuntahan na team, syempre as a veteran na din, kailangan ko dalhin dito sa team na maraming rookies and youngsters," Maliksi added.

With Globalport looking to charge late, Blackwater did display incredible poise down the stretch to complete the playoff cast of the 2017 Governors' Cup.

The Elite likewise picked up their first win of the tournament, tying a franchise record for most wins in one conference.

"Siguro tulungan ko yung team, I don't want to take it personally. Syempre yung team ang priority hindi ang individual, kailangan namin manalo," Maliksi said.

"Medyo confident naman ako sa lineup namin eh, kailangan lang talaga may mag-lead," he added.
