Playoff-bound ROS ends Alaska's miserable season
At 6-4, Rain or Shine still has a chance to go as high as number 3 in the standings.

ANTIPOLO --- It was the final nail in the coffin for Alaska.

Playoff-bound Rain or Shine pounded on the hard-luck Aces, 112-82, Wednesday at the Ynares Center here, picking up momentum ahead of the 2017 Governors' Cup quarterfinals.

The Elasto Painters' dominant win put a merciful end to Alaska's miserable season and the victory now has ROS right in the middle of the fight for a top-4 finish which comes with a twice-to-beat advantage by playoff time.

At 6-4, Rain or Shine still has a chance to go as high as number 3 in the standings.

"We still have a chance for the top 4 and I told the players to want to win," head coach Caloy Garcia said.

"We're lucky that Thoss, Calvin, and Banchero didn't play today [but] I told the players to always play 100 percent," he added.

The Aces didn't field Abueva, Thoss, and Banchero in their season finale.

On the other hand, all ROS players saw action and four Elasto Painters finished in double figures led by J'Nathan Bullock with 14 points.

Beau Belga and Jericho Cruz dropped 12 each while Don Trollano added 11. All three players came off the bench.

ROS broke the game open in the second period, outscorin the Aces, 34-18, to put up a 22-point lead at the break. The Elasto Painters led by as many as 37 points in the second half before cruising all the way to victory.

Buck Henton led the Aces (3-8) with 20 points while Tony dela Cruz added 12 on a starting role. Dondon Hontiveros came off the bench and had two points.

Both dela Cruz and Hontiveros played their final game in the PBA as both veterans are calling it a career after 17 years in the league.
