TNT just punked defending champion Brgy. Ginebra.

Displaying some scary form ahead of the 2017 Governors' Cup playoffs, the KaTropa knocked out the champion Gin Kings Saturday at the Big Dome, issuing an emphatic statement via a 121-92 victory.

TNT finished its elimination round campaign with an 8-3 record. The KaTropa are the first to clinch a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals, however, their final placing is yet to be determined.

With crucial playoff position hanging in the balance, TNT exploded in the second half behind prolific import Glen Rice Jr.

Rice Jr. fired 18 points in the period as the KaTropa took a 17-point lead into the fourth. Jayson Castro then took over in the final 12 minutes as TNT led by as many as 32, landing the knockout blow rather early.

The Blur dropped 11 in the final period.

"We've always talked about everybody pitching in for us to be successful every game. I think today, players were really focused on the task and they were all ready to contribute today," head coach Nash Racela said.

"It really helped us that we shot really, really well, especially from the percentages. I don't know the percentages but by the looks of it, maganda. When you shoot that way, you really have a good chance of winning games. It doesn't happen a lot of times but today it did so we took advantage of it," he added.

TNT shot 17-of-40 from deep with Rice Jr. and Castro making six treys each. Casto himself shot 6-of-7 from beyond the arc.

Rice Jr. led the way for the KaTropa with 36 points and nine rebounds while Castro added 28 points, four rebounds, and seven assists. Rookie RR Pogoy and Troy Rosario contributed 15 apiece.

Justin Brownlee carried the fight for Ginebra, dropping 28 points. The Gin Kings finished the elimination round also with an 8-3 record, however, the defending champs still have a chance to fall out of the top 4 depending on how the final two games of the regular season plays out.
