ROS survives late KaTropa rally to force playoff decider
No. 7 Rain or Shine has forced a sudden death against no. 2 TNT after a close win in the Governors' Cup quarterfinals.

The top two seeds are not having a great quarterfinals so far in the 2017 Governors' Cup.

No. 2 Rain or Shine forced a sudden death against no. 2 TNT after scoring a close 106-102 win Wednesday at the MOA Arena.

Up by as many as 20 points in the fourth quarter, the Elasto Painters almost botched the finish before holding on in the dying seconds to erase the KaTropa's twice-to-beat advantage.

Armed with a 102-82 lead with 6:30 to go, Rain or Shine surrendered an 18-2 TNT run that cut the lead to four, 104-100, with 51 seconds remaining.

However, the Elasto Painters got a big break on offense after Troy Rosario stole a pass only to give it away again two seconds later, robbing the KaTropa of a crucial chance to continue their uprising.

Rain or Shine would make a couple of free throws in the final 33 seconds to get enough cushion to secure the win.

"I just told the players before the game that for them, they’re allowed to lose the game and us, we have to win for us to survive," head coach Caloy Garcia said.

"I told them from the beginning we’re a good matchup against TNT. Matchup-wise with the import, with the locals, I believe that we’re almost running the same system, so it’s all about who wants it more on the defensive side," he added.

Import J'Nathan Bullock waxed from deep, firing seven triples on his way to a game-high 31 points to lead the Elasto Painters. He also had 15 rebounds in almost 44 minutes of play.

Gabe Norwood wasn't far off from beyond the arc, nailing four treys as he finished with a total of 15 points, nine rebounds, and six assists. Four other locals scored in double figures led by Raymond Almazan's 13.

TNT, which lost its second game to ROS in this conference got 23 points from forward Kelly Williams. Jayson Castro fired 22 points, five rebounds, and six assists in a losing effort.

Glen Rice Jr. and Anthony Semerad scored 19 apiece while Troy Rosario dropped 10 markers and 16 rebounds.
