"Ayaw na namin ulit bumalik dun na maghihintay kami. Talo tapos maghihintay kami next conference, papanoorin namin yung ibang team." --- Baser Amer.
After Meralco got the boot in the 2017 Commissioner's Cup playoffs, Baser Amer took it pretty hard.
He said he was getting tired of early playoff exits. And for someone who's been practically a winner all his life, Baser has every right to be disappointed about not making deep postseason runs.
In the 2017 Governors' Cup, the Bolts almost took another early vacation as no. 8 Blackwater pushed the team to the limit in the quarterfinals.
But Amer was having none of that and simply powered Meralco all the way to the semifinals with the second-best scoring performance of his young PBA career.
"Ayaw na namin ulit bumalik dun na maghihintay kami. Talo tapos maghihintay kami next conference, papanoorin namin yung ibang team," Amer said after beating the Elite in a knockout game Thursday.
"Nakakainggit eh, nakakainggit para sakin. Gusto namin mapunta sa next chapter naman diba, kasi masarap maglaro dun eh," he added.
The sophomore guard dropped 31 points against Blackwater, one point short of his PBA career high.
To make everything else better, Baser did it on the eve of his birthday. He's turning 25 today.
"Isang malaking regalo para sakin. Of course para din sa Meralco. Maraming kaming napasaya," he said.
Happy birthday Baser, and welcome back to the PBA semifinals.
