"Laging sinasabi namin, law of averages. Parang, it's about time na we make our shots eh." --- Garvo Lanete on Meralco's crucial local support in Game 6 of the Finals.
In Game 6 of the 2017 Governors' Cup Finals, Meralco finally had more than one local to submit a good game to back up import Allen Durham.
It was about time.
Reynel Hugnatan has been easily the most consistent local for the Bolts in these Finals and six games into The Rematch, Garvo Lanete finally joined the fray, giving Meralco the push it needed to force Game 7 against defending champion Brgy. Ginebra.
Starting for the first time in the series, Lanete fired eight points right in the opening period, helping the Bolts set the tone for the whole game.
Lanete finished with a total of 15 points, five rebounds, two assists, and three steals for his best game of the Finals.
Again, it was about time.
"Laging sinasabi namin, law of averages," Lanete said on the struggles of the Meralco locals all series long.
"Parang, it's about time na we make our shots eh, ilang games din na si Papa Rey lang ang consistent so kailangan namin mag-step up," he added.
Lanete was talking about Reynel Hugnatan, who surprisingly remains as the Bolts' best local player. He finished with 24 points, 18 from beyond the arc, in Game 6 as he came off the bench.
After Hugnatan and Lanete, Chris Newsome and Jared Dillinger likewise had good games as Meralco managed to extend the PBA season to one final game.
As a team, the Bolts drained 12 triples, all from locals, and four different players made at least one from beyond the arc.
"Yun lang naman yung ano namin eh, we just have to make our shots. I made my shots, Papa Rey made his shots, so it's easier for Allen sa ilalim," Lanete said.
"Last game, di kami maka-shoot sa labas kaya hirap na hirap si AD sa ilalim. Thankful ako na yung opportunity na binigay sakin hindi ko nasayang, hopefully next game, ganun ulit," he added.
