Standhardinger will be worth the wait for San Miguel
All smiles at the San Miguel camp as Christian Standhardinger looks like he's the missing piece in the Beermen's Grand Slam puzzle even if the Fil-German forward is set to miss six months to play out his live contract in the ABL.

It has been established long before that Christian Standhardinger will miss time in the PBA as he plays out his contract in the Asean Basketball League.

However, as far sa San Miguel is concerned, the team is willing to wait for the 6'8" Fil-German forward.

Because it's going to be worth it in the long run.

"I think sinabi ko na before na we're willing to wait even for one or two years," head coach Leo Austria said after the Beermen officially picked Standhardinger first in the PBA Draft Sunday.

"It's still okay for me as long as we'll have him. He could give a lot of help for our team. Alam mo naman kami, we're always looking for excellence," he added.

San Miguel sure is set up for excellence still even without Standhardinger as the Beermen won two titles this past season.

With Standhardinger on deck, the Beermen can have another sure shot at immortality. Even if the team downplays it obviously because the new season is still a good one month away, San Miguel is expected to compete for another Grand Slam.

"Right now, I'm not thinking of [Grand Slam]. One game at a time, one conference at a time kami," Austria said.

"We still don’t know yet what we could have from him since he’s going to Hong Kong, but once he joins us, we’re expecting great things for him. Ang importante dito, what we’re after is to have good chemistry," he added.

Regardless of what San Miguel feels about the Grand Slam right now, the overwhelming sentiment is that Standhardinger is the Beermen's missing piece in order to complete the triple crown.

Austria is hoping that's the case, which makes the wait for the Fil-German forward all the more worth it.

"Sana," coach Leo said if Standhardinger is the final piece of San Miguel's Grand Slam aspirations.

"Pero hindi ganoon kadali manalo, sana matulungan niya kami," he added.
