Jimmy Alapag will now have two former rivals standing alongside him as he takes on a new challenge as a first-time head coach for Alab Pilipinas.
With Dondon Hontiveros already all-set to play for him, the rookie shot-caller will now also be backed up by Danny Seigle who will serve as consultant for the Filipino representatives in the 2017-2018 Asean Basketball League.
Alapag, then with Talk n Text, played against both Hontiveros and Seigle who were then with San Miguel in the PBA in the early 2000s.
In their later years as players, Alapag and Seigle were then teammates for Talk n Text.
Now, the 41-year-old Seigle will be helping his former rival and teammate on the sidelines.
He joins assistant coach Mac Cuan and trainer Chappy Callanta in Alapag’s staff.
In its second season in the ABL the Philippines will be bannered by reigning and defending Local MVP Ray Parks Jr. and legendary Hontiveros.
Flanking them are American reinforcements Ivan Johnson and Reggie Okosa as well as battle-hardened veterans Robby Celiz, Lo Domingo, Pao Javelona, Rico Maierhofer, Pamboy Raymundo, Oping Sumalinog, and Josh Urbiztondo.
Alab is determined to challenge defending champion Hong Kong which will still be led into battle by World MVP Marcus Elliott and Asean Heritage MVP Tyler Lamb together with Filipino-German Christian Standhardinger.
The two teams begin their respective campaigns against one another on November 19 at the MOA Arena.
All of the action there and then throughout the tournament will still be on S+A, S+A HD, and sports.abs-cbn.com/livestream/abl.
