Former TNT teammates Jayson Castro and Jimmy Alapag will be on opposite sides as Gilas Pilipinas takes on Alab Pilipinas in a close-door tune-up game.
This should be interesting.
Ahead of its first pair of games in the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers, Gilas Pilipinas is getting a helping hand in preparation from none other than Alab Pilipinas.
Gilas and Alab will engage in a tuneup behind closed doors Saturday at the Meralco Gym, marking the first and only exhibition for the national team before they head to Tokyo to take on Japan on November 24.
Alab will also benefit from all of this as the team, handled by Jimmy Alapag, is busy building up for their Asean Basketball League season-opener against defending champion Hong Kong on November 19 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Waiting on the arrival of naturalized center Andray Blatche, who is set to land in the country on Sunday, Gilas' local crew should be tested by Alab which has Ivan Johnson and Reggie Okosa as imports.
Still, Chot Reyes will have June Mar Fajardo, Jayson Castro, and the rest of his old reliables at his disposal.
After Japan, Gilas will host Taipei at the Araneta Coliseum on November 27, marking the first window of the Asian Qualifiers.
