"Different, when you've played for so long parang it's a much different perspective, Kasi when you're playing, you're focused on makin the shot or making the assist," Alapag said when asked about his general thoughts on his firs official game as a basketball head coach.

After a decorated career in the PBA and a heroic stint with the Philippine national team, Jimmy Alapag completed his transition to being a head coach Sunday as his Tanduay Alab Pilipinas opened its second season in the Asean Basketball League.

And while coach Jimmy officially took his first L, a close 89-92 decision to defending champion Hong Kong Eastern, the man they used to call the Mighty Mouse is not one to hold his head down.

He says he just feels different more than any other feeling.

"Different, when you've played for so long parang it's a much different perspective, Kasi when you're playing, you're focused on makin the shot or making the assist," Alapag said when asked about his general thoughts on his firs official game as a basketball head coach.

"But now when you're coaching, you're trying to put the pieces together with the five guys on the court," he added.

Jimmy's first game as chief tactician definitely had its highs and lows.

At one point in the first half, his Alab trailed by as many as 15 points before rallying to take the lead early in the fourth.

Hong Kong Eastern would then regain control but Alab had one last run left but was ultimately one halfcourt heave that went in and out short of forcing overtime.

"Just okay," Alapag said of his first performance as a head coach.

"Despite the loss, I thought there were a lot of positives. We just can't afford to put ourselves in that big of a hole in the first half against the defending champions," he added.
