Alab remains winless in the 2017-2018 Asean Basketball League season, taking a 97-83 beating courtesy of the visiting Singapore Slingers Wednesday at the City Multi-Purpose Complex here.
After yet another slow start, trailing by double digits in the first half, Alab caught fire in the third and cut the deficit to one late in the period as Josh Urbiztondo and Ivan Johnson started to hit shots from deep.
However, the Slingers, who took out Alab in the semifinals last season, returned the favor in the fourth, going on a quick rally to restore a 10-point advantage, 81-71.
Singapore then piled up the points to cruise to a 14-point win.
Similar to their season-opening loss to defending champion Hong Kong 10 days ago, Alab couldn't get anything going in the first two quarters and entered the break down 12, 38-50.
Alab finally got some momentum going in the middle of the third as three triples from Urbizton and Johnson got the Philippines within four, 68-72.
After a pair of free throws from Johnson with 26 seconds left, Alab capped a 33-point quarter to move to within one point of Singapore, 71-72.
That was it for Alab though as the Slingers took care of the fourth period, outscoring Alab, 23-12, to come away with a big road win.
