Unfortunately for SMB and fortunately for Ginebra and the rest of the league, Standhardinger will most likely miss the Philippine Cup since he has to play out his existing live contract with Hong Kong in the Asean Basketball League.
Brgy. Ginebra head coach Tim Cone thinks that his team is the one that will give the best challenge to San Miguel Beer for it's All-Filipino title next season.
However, while the Gin Kings have the personnel the go man-for-man with the reigning three-time Philippine Cup champions, Cone couldn't help but thank the basketball gods for his luck that the Beermen will be "wounded" for their upcoming title defense.
Already blessed with an incredibly powerful All-Filipino core, San Miguel used the number 1 pick from the 2017 Draft to add Fil-German forward Christian Standhardinger.
Unfortunately for them and fortunately for Ginebra and the rest of the league, Standhardinger will most likely miss the Philippine Cup since he has to play out his existing live contract in the Asean Basketball League.
"Thank you very much. Hong Kong. Thank you," Cone said, referring to Hong Kong Eastern, the defending ABL champions and the time that signed Standhardiner prior to him deciding to enter the PBA Draft.
Standhardinger signed a six-month deal with the team.
"Thank you, Hong Kong for signing him to a contract. He’s such a huge guy, very talented and we will try to do as much against him," Cone added.
Coach Tim and the rest of the PBA still have six months to prepare though for a San Miguel team featuring Christian Standhardinger.
Thank God for Hong Kong.
