Fil-German Christian Standhardinger put up 40 points and grabbed 17 boards to lead Easter past Mono in Bangkok, Thailand
Fil-German Gilas standout and 2017 PBA Draft top pick Christian Standhardinger put up monster numbers as he led his Eastern team to a 112-105 win over the Mono Vampires, Friday afternoon at Stadium 29 in Bangkok, Thailand.
Coming one point shy of the Heritage Import Scoring record, Standhardinger put up 40 points along with a 17 boards, five steals, and three assists in what was his best outing so far for Eastern, who improve to 3-0.
Things were close at the end of the first quarter of action, with Eastern holding a slim 29-27 lead over the home team.
The visitors created some distance at the half with a ten-point margin, but the Thai side managed to pull close again during the closing stretch of the ballgame.
With a six point lead and just under a minute to play, Standhardinger put the game out of reach, converting off a Marcus Elliot handoff.
After the game, Standhardinger downplayed his massive effort, apoligizing to his teammates for a few missed chances.
"Actually today was not a good day," Standhardinger said. "I had three easy lay-ups that I missed so I apologize to my teammates cause I messed up their assists but everything else, the victory is the most important thing so it worked out,"
Eastern managed to pull out the close win, without forward Ryan Moss, and with three other players fouling out.
"Ryan Moss is a big part of this team so it's very important as a team to compensate for losing him so I'm happy we were able to do that." Standhardinger said of the 43-year old big man.
Reginald Johnson led the way for the Mono Vampires with 31 points, eight boards, and three steals. Pinoy Paul Zamar chipped in with 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists, while Fil-American Jason Brickman posted a 12 point-11 rebound double-double to go with five assists for the Thailand-based club.
