PBA Season 43 preview: The Contenders
As long as Jayson Castro can run, TNT's championship window is open.

Forget the PBA impasse for a second. Seriously, forget it.

Why?

There are basketball games to be played.

That's right, the PBA will push through with the opening of the 43rd season as originally scheduled and before we start what appears to be another long, exciting, stressful (for the good reasons, of course), and eventful year of basketball, let's look at all 12 teams first.

In this preview, we take a look at the teams that belong in that next level, the upper tier so to speak. Special thanks to Alaska's coach Alex Compton for this idea.

Okay here we go.

TNT KaTropa

PBA Season 42 results:

Philippine Cup - Semifinals

Commissioner's Cup - Finals

Governors' Cup - Semifinals

PBA Season 43 opening day line up:

Harvey Carey
Frank Golla
Alex Nuyles
Mo Tautuaa
Ryan Reyes
Mark Tallo
Norbert Torres
Anthony Semerad
Monbert Arong
RR Pogoy
Jayson Castro
Troy Rosario
Kelly Williams
Sidney Onwubere
Alfrancis Tamsi

Injured/Reserve: RR Garcia

Head coach: Nash Racela

After a down year in 2016, 2017 saw TNT rise to being PBA contenders anew.

However, it can still be considered a down year for the proud MVP franchise because the KaTropa had zero championships to show for last season.

Despite not adding any marquee names --- at least not yet --- TNT should still be in the thick of things when it comes to the title race this season. For one, the KaTropa can take down the top teams in the league.

As long as Jayson Castro can run, TNT's championship window is open.

Magnolia Hotshots Pambansang Manok

PBA Season 42 results:

Philippine Cup - Semifinals

Commissioner's Cup - Semifinals

Governors' Cup - Semifinals

PBA Season 43 opening day line up:

Justin Melton
Paul Lee
Rafi Reavis
Jio Jalalon
PJ Simon
Robbie Herndon
Ian Sangalang
Bam Gamalinda
Mark Barroca
Marc Pingris
Aldrech Ramos
Rome Dela Rosa
Kyle Pascual
Mon Abundo
Rodney Brondial

Head coach: Chito Victolero

The re-branded Hotshots can play defense with the best of them, that's why they made it to three straight semis last season.

However, the team has to figure out how to score.

Once Magnolia can fix its offense, then maybe we can start talking about three straight Finals again --- maybe even championships --- and not just three straight semis.
