“If everybody’s looking forward to my first game, imagine me. Imagine my feelings about finally playing in the PBA.” - Kiefer Ravena
Wednesday, the San Juan Arena will play host to one of the most highly-anticipated PBA debuts in recent history, as second-overall pick Kiefer Ravena makes his NLEX debut.
And while the former UAAP champion and MVP has seen a ton of experience in the NBA D-League, with the national team, and with Alab Pilipinas, the Philippine Basketball Association is most definitely a different beast in it’s own, so it’s bound to be a whole new experience for the former Ateneo Blue Eagle.
“Very excited, very anxious on how the team will be doing.” Ravena told ABS-CBN Sports. “We’re excited for it, I think we’re ready, but you’ll never know ’till you’re there and hopefully it’s going to be a good sign for us for the rest of the season.”
From a personal standpoint, Ravena says he’s just focused on what he needs to do to help his new team out.
“Just trying to focus in on the things that I have to do to help the team win, focus on the things that matter.”
“If everybody’s looking forward to my first game, imagine me. Imagine my feelings about finally playing in the PBA.” Ravena added. “I’m just trying to calm myself down, relax and try to find what they say inner peace to really focus in and relax on our games.”
Eyes will definitely be on Ravena come gametime, but the 24-year old says that, while he is about to enter the highest level of basketball in the country, he finds himself a bit more calm now than he was prior to his UAAP debut.
“Well, siguro sa PBA, syempre professional ka na eh, so yung anxiety mo medyo kalmado na, hindi katulad nung after high school mo na yung atmosphere iba, na mas maingay yung crowd, hindi ka sanay na maraming nanonood kasi sa high school wala naman masyado nanonood,”
Ravena adds that now, entering the professional ranks, it’s more of a mentality thing.
“It’s more on handling yourself in a more professional way, but at the same time you can’t take away the anxiety that you’re gonna have during the game, so I just have to balance everything out, with the anxiety and being calm.”
Ravena and the NLEX Road Warriors open their 2017-2018 PBA All-Filipino Conference campaign against Kia Picanto on Wednesday, December 20th at 4:15 PM at the San Juan Arena.
