Greg Slaughter and the Gin Kings power through for yet another Manila Clasico victory.
BOCAUE, Bulacan --- Ginebra still owns Christmas and Manila Clasico.
The Gin Kings punched their 10th victory overall on December 25th after taking care of rival Magnolia, 89-78, in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Philippine Arena here.
Ginebra's twin tower combination was in full effect Monday as Greg Slaughter picked up where he left off from the Governors' Cup, where he won Best Player of the Conference, to lead the charge for the Gin Kings.
Slaughter dominated his way to 24 points, 12 rebounds, and four blocks. The other half of the combination, Japeth Aguilar, went for 12 points including two thunderous dunks late in the fourth period that sealed the win for the barangay.
"I'm a little surprised at how well we played. We weren't perfect out there but we played with really good energy," head coach Tim Cone said.
"It was like a perfect storm for us to get beat tonight but our guys figured out a way," he added.
The Gin Kings were in control all game long, taking multiple double-digit leads multiple times.
However, the Hotshots made things interesting in the third, cutting the deficit to one points, 52-53, but never really took the lead.
Aside from their twin tower combo, the Gin Kings got 15 points from LA Tenorio while Jervy Cruz came off the bench to score 12, eight in the fourth period.
Ian Sangalang carried the fight for Magnolia, posting a career-high 25 points and 11 rebounds.
Paul Lee dropped 16 but only shot 38 percent from the field and PJ Simon was good for 15 points.
