Alas keeping his focus after first PBA win in over a decade
More than taking his first win with the Fuel Masters, Alas is focusing more on the fact that Phoenix finally snapped a 10-game losing skid that spanned two PBA seasons.

ANTIPOLO, Rizal --- For the first in 16 years, Louie Alas finally had a win in the PBA as a head coach.

By leading the Phoenix Fuel Masters to a convincing 125-102 win over Kia, Alas got his first win since 2001 back when he was still coaching the Mobiline franchise that would later evolve into the TNT KaTropa.

Asked what has changed in the league since his last tour of duty as head coach, Alas won't go into anything specific although he did note something that different for sure.

"Tagal na nun, 15 years ago. Ang alam ko lang mas bata ako noon," Alas said with a laugh.

More than taking his first win with the Fuel Masters, Alas is focusing more on the fact that Phoenix finally snapped a 10-game losing skid that spanned two PBA seasons.

The Fuel Masters' last victory came in July 22 in the 2017 Governors' Cup when they beat Alaska. It took them five months before winning again.

"Actually, last 10 days, yung excitement, di nawawala kasi we’re on a 10-game losing streak. Sabi sa akin, coach, sana manalo na tayo next game," Alas said.

With that being said, Alas wants to not go five months in between wins again.

"Ang ini-isip na agad against NLEX. Dito wala ka nang pwedeng mag-relax sa team," Alas said.
