Justin Brownlee and Renaldo Balkman are expected to give Alab Pilipinas a much-needed boost onto a playoff push
Alab Pilipinas’ flame in the 2017-2018 Asean Basketball League will get even fierier with the entry of a fan favorite and a volatile talent.
Justin Brownlee and Renaldo Balkman are all set to take the place of fellow Americans Ivan Johnson and Reggie Okosa for the Filipino side currently languishing at the bottom half of the leaderboard.
Team manager Charlie Dy made the announcement through Instagram early Monday – without a doubt, starting the new year with a big, big bang.
Brownlee made his name in the Philippines by lifting crowd darling Brgy. Ginebra to back-to-back PBA Governor’s Cup championships – ending an eight-year title drought. He will bring both perimeter scoring and an inside presence.
It also doesn’t hurt that, time and again, he has already proven his clutch credentials.
On the other hand, Balkman had made more headlines for getting banned in the PBA after choking then Petron teammate Arwind Santos.
Still, much like Brownlee, he can do damage both inside and outside.
The two will team up with reigning and defending Local MVP Ray Parks Jr., steady point guard Josh Urbiztondo, and head coach Jimmy Alapag in their goal to better their semifinal finish last season.
Alab returns to action, most probably with their two new reinforcements, on Wednesday up against Westports Malaysia.
