Donít expect to see Terrence Romeo playing anytime soon
There will be no sighting of a Terrence Romeo in uniform for either Globalport or Gilas Pilipinas anytime soon

Terrence Romeo stayed on the court for nearly an hour after Globalport wrapped up its practice on Friday at the Greenmeadows Gym in Pasig.

However, that seems to be the most action the Batang Pier star will be seeing anytime soon.

Romeo said that remains no timetable for his return and that it is unlikely he will be back on the court this month. “’Di ko pa nakikitang kaya ko this January. Malabo,” he told reporters.

The high-scoring guard is recovering from a knee injury and is yet to suit up this season.

According to him, his knee is far from a hundred percent. “Tumatakbo ako konti-konti and nararamdaman ko yung pressure (sa tuhod), masakit. Ayokong pilitin,” he said.

He also said that it isn’t just his knee that has been affected, but his conditioning as well. As he put it, “Medyo nawala ako sa shape nung nakalipas na buwan kaya kelangan ko rin magpapayat nang konti para pagbalik ko, hindi mapupunta lahat ng pressure sa tuhod ko. “

Along with missing out more than half of Globalport’s elimination round schedule, Romeo’s injury will also sideline him from the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers in February.

Gilas will be resuming training on Monday for a looming showdown with fellow undefeated team Australia in its home court on February 22.

Romeo said that he has already informed coach Chot Reyes about his status. “Actually, nakausap ko si coach last month and sinabi ko nang kung pwedeng bigyan ako ng chance na makapag-try out ulit, pero after February na,” he said.

He then continued, “Si coach Chot naman, ‘di siya nagko-close ng opportunity para sa kahit kaninong tao kaya nung in-open ko yun, sabi niya, of course, open pa rin yung pool.”

Of course, the former UAAP MVP said that when that time comes, he knows full well he has to earn a spot. “Siyempre, kelangan ko maging deserving by that time. Kung magiging deserving ako by that time, makikita naman nila yun. Kung di naman ako deserving, maiintindihan ko naman din yun,” he said.

He then continued, “Sisiguraduhin kong by (the next window), magiging healthy ako and kundisyon para 100 percent ako na makapag-tryout para sa pool.”
