Interestingly enough, La Salle star Ricci Rivero is out of the list despite being one of the players name dropped by MVP himself late last year.
The future is now.
Five years before the Philippines co-hosts the 2023 FIBA World Cup with Japan and Indonesia, an initial list for the pool that will make up Gilas Pilipinas has been released by head coach Chot Reyes.
Coach Chot, following a meeting with chief backer and Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas chairman emeritus Manny V. Pangilinan showed the list on social media Friday.
Divided into three categories, the new Gilas pool easily has a ceiling with 7'2" Kai Sotto leading the way.
6'11" AJ Edu is also in the mix while Isaac Go, Abu Tratter, Carl Tamayo, Kenmark Carino, Will Gozum, and Troy Rike complete the bigs lineup.
All of them are listed at least 6'6".
It gets loaded in the wings and guards though as Thirdy Ravena, CJ Perez, Kobe Paras, and Babes Bolick lead the list of candidates in consideration.
Completing the preliminary pool are Juan Gomez De Liano, Remy Martin, Matt Nieto, Paul Desiderio, J-jay Alejandro, Ken Tuffin, JR Ambohot, Dwight Ramos, Joshua Sinclair, Arvin Tolentino, and Javee Mocon.
Interestingly enough, La Salle star Ricci Rivero is out of the list despite being one of the players name dropped by MVP himself late last year. Also not in the list is current Los Angeles Lakers combo guard Jordan Clarkson.
Still, Reyes said that the list is by no means final so do expect a lot of names to be added or removed starting now until 2023.
