Ricci Rivero and Andrei Caracut made it clear that they want to play for the national team
Of the 23 players on Gilas Pilipinas head coach Chot Reyes’ wishlist for 2023, four are from UAAP champion Ateneo de Manila University and three are from NCAA champion San Beda College.
Five hail from foreign schools while National University has three players, Far Eastern University and University of the Philippines have two apiece, and all of Colegio de San Juan de Letran, Lyceum of the Philippines University, and Mapua University have one each.
Aside from now-graduated Abu Tratter, nobody else is representing De La Salle University in Reyes’ wishlist.
According to sources, Andrei Caracut, Ricci Rivero, and Santi Santillan were also all considered for the wishlist for 2023, but were ultimately left out for undisclosed reasons.
Still, both Mythical selection Rivero and former Rookie of the Year Caracut are hopeful they can make the cut when the Gilas roster is finally made official in five years.
“Ipipilit ko yan kahit anong mangyari kasi pangarap yan ng lahat ng player,” Rivero said. “Kaya lang, kung ayaw nila, wala akong magagawa.”
Caracut could only agree. “Wala pa namang kumausap sa akin, pero siyempre, gusto ko. Lahat ng players naman, gusto yun,” he expressed.
Keep believing, 2023 is still a long ways away, boys.
