Filipinos know by now that Justin Brownlee is as clutch as they come.

It was Singapore’s turn to witness just that at its own home at the OCBC Arena on Sunday.

Brownlee’s back-to-back hits and beautiful pass leading to a Renaldo Balkman layup energized Alab Pilipinas past the pesky Slingers in overtime, 89-80, for their third consecutive victory in the 2017-2018 Asean Basketball League.

The American reinforcement was shooting a poor 5-of-18 through four quarters, but just turned it on in the extra period.

There, he sliced through the defense of both Xavier Alexander and Chris Charles for two straight inside baskets before setting up Balkman for his own short stab that mounted an 84-78 advantage in favor of the Philippines.

Following even more defensive stops, an and-one from Ray Parks Jr. put Alab up by nine with 1:13 to go.

That lead would only hold as they exacted revenge on Singapore which had downed them back at home in Sta. Rosa, Laguna a month ago.

In the end, Brownlee was all over the floor anew with 17 points, eight assists, seven rebounds, two steals, and two blocks. Balkman contributed 26 markers, eight boards, four pilfers, and two rejections of his own.

The big games from the reinforcements were yet again enough to overcome another low-scoring game from Parks Jr. who had 11 points on top of seven rebounds.

Still, after a 0-3 start to the season, the Filipinos have now rung off three wins in a row to rise to fourth.

On the other hand, the Slingers continue their downward spiral with their fourth loss in the last five. They fall to 3-5 despite the best efforts of import Charles who had a 22-point, 11-rebound double-double.
