Phoenix's snipers came to play and the team finally went streaking for the first time since mid 2016.

The Fuel Masters welcomed Jeff Chan back in a big way, scoring a 102-95 victory over the previously undefeated NLEX Road Warriors in the 2018 Philippine Cup Sunday at the Big Dome.

Matthew Wright and the returning Jeff Chan drilled six three-pointers for the Fuel Masters as Phoenix rised to 2-1, tying NLEX with the same record in the standings.

After a back-and-forth first half, Phoenix unloaded a 10-0 run in the third to take control of the ball game, 71-58.

The lead reached as high as 17 points, 90-73, early in the fourth but the Road Warriors had one more luft left in them, cutting the deficit to four, 88-92, before Phoenix leaned on Matthew Wright to seal the win.

The Fil-Canadian gunner drained two buckets and assisted on another one to give his team a 100-92 lead inside the last two minutes.

"The key here is we were able to contain their perimeter guys," head coach Louie Alas said.

"Kasi lahat naman ng coaches, alam yung strength ng NLEX, na hindi mo mai-stop [pero] ma-limit mo lang yung production ng perimeter guys, and I guess we're in good shape," he added.

True enough, the Fuel Masters limited NLEX's super rookie Kiefer Ravena, limiting him to only eight points on 30 percent shooting from the field.

As for their own, Phoenix got 19 points from Wright to go along with five rebounds and seven assists while Chan returned from an illness to add another 18 points and six rebounds.

RJ Jazul fired 15 points and rookie forward Jason Perkins was good for 14 markers. Veteran big man Doug Kramer then submitted a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double for good measure.

Larry Fonacier led the way for the Road Warriors with 22 points.
