For now, it appears that the 2023 pool will meet once a week to familiarize themselves with the inner workings of Gilas Pilipinas and with each other.

The road to the 2023 FIBA World Cup starts as early as now for Gilas Pilipinas.

After head coach Chot Reyes revealed the initial pool of players last week, a handful of the #23for23 already got their first reps of practice Monday as the current national team started its preparations for Australia and Japan for next month in the second window of the 2019 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers.

For now, it appears that the 2023 pool will meet once a week to familiarize themselves with the inner workings of Gilas Pilipinas and with each other.

"That's the plan," Reyes said.

"Until we can come up with a more regular, more definite schedule. As I've said, this is far from fixed. Ang gusto lang namin masimulan, maumpisahan. Done is better than perfect," he added.

With a mixture of local collegiate and high school players as well as international prospects, a lot can change with the #23for23 from now until Gilas Pilipinas has to actually come up with a group of 12 players.

But despite that, the preparation starts now for the national team.

"This is far from a perfect plan, but at least we got it done," Reyes said.

"We got it started, yun ang importante. Kung hihintayin natin maging maayos ang lahat, di tayo makaka-umpisa. I think it's important for those kids also to know what we are looking," he added.
