After giving up a combined 219 points in its first two games --- both of which were stinging defeats --- Globalport's defense finally bared its teeth in the 2018 PBA Philippine Cup.

The Batang Pier shut down Rain or Shine Friday at the MOA Arena, limiting the run-and-gun Elasto Painters to only 70 points on their way to picking up their first win of the season.

Global's tough defensive stand is something to be proud of says head coach Pido Jarencio.

"We hit our target na 80 points below kasi for now, parang worst team kami sa points allowed eh. We're giving up 109 points per game," he said.

"Pinagusapan namin ng mga players na we have to consider na kailangan dumepensa kami. And tonight, we played good defense," Jarencio added.

Another thing to be proud of says coach Pido is his team's great finish.

Global stifled ROS to only 14 points in the fourth allowing them to hold on for the win.

"At least ngayon we finished stronger," Jarencio said.

"Hindi pwedeng pang third quarter lang kami or 45 minutes of good basketball tapos pagdating ng last three minutes bumibigay," he added.
