Compton vouches for his old MBA coach: I love Coach Ricky
Since Ricky Dandan took over for Kia, the Picanto lost two games by a combined 84 points.
Alaska head coach Alex Compton has a rather long history with Kia's Ricky Dandan.
Dandan was Compton's first coach in the old MBA with the Manila Metrostars. The two were also part of the Rain or Shine staff in the PBA back when the team was still known as the Welcoat Dragons.
And with the Aces handing the Picanto a sound 37-point beating Sunday, Compton gave some of his thoughts on his former coach.
Mainly, he says he understands what Dandan is going through right now taking over the lowly Kia franchise.
"Coach Ricky is a good friend, and yeah, I've been as an assistant, in that position, when we started at Welcoat. It's tough, it's really tough," Compton said.
"Their guys are working hard, he just took over early in the season so he's trying to put his system in. I know he's got a great basketball mind. He just stepped into a really difficult situaton," he added.
As the Picanto continue their unconventional ways, now losers of 16 straight games for the third longest skid in PBA history, Compton is confident Dandan will figure something out.
"I love Coach Ricky, and he's just in a tough position," he said.
"I'm sure he'll get those guys playing because I know he's a good coach," Compton added.
