Ravena shows respect to rival Lee with career-game
You know he’s one of the best PGs in the league. Parang ‘pag nakakalaban mo ‘yung ganoong player, kailangan mong ilabas ‘yung ano mo eh, yung A-Game mo kasi respeto mo ‘yun sa kanya -- Kiefer Ravena on Paul Lee

NLEX rookie Kiefer Ravena knows how to give respect to one of the PBA’s finest point guards – by bringing out his best game.

Ravena was lights out Sunday, hitting 12 of 20 from the field to reset his career-high to 31 points against Magnolia and its prized guard Paul Lee.

The former Ateneo de Manila King Eagle filled up the stats box with five assists, four rebounds and five steals in 33 minutes of action for the Road Warriors.

Unfortunately, his career night was dampened by Lee’s 21-point outing as he powered the Hotshots to a 105-94 win in the 43rd PBA Philippine Cup at the Big Dome.

“You know he’s one of the best PGs in the league. Parang ‘pag nakakalaban mo ‘yung ganoong player, kailangan mong ilabas ‘yung ano mo eh, yung A-game mo kasi respeto mo ‘yun sa kanya,” said Ravena of Lee, who himself praised the game of the 2017 draft second overall pick.

“’Pag nilalabas mo ‘yung respeto mo sa isang player, ilalabas niya din yung best niya sa’yo. So ganon ‘yung nangyari kanina,” added Ravena, who last faced Lee back in 2010 in a summer league when the Magnolia guard was still playing for University of the East. “They ended up with the win but I wanted to see where I can battle against the premier PGs in the league.”

Ravena after four games is averaging 19.25 points per game and 7.25 assists per outing for NLEX. His previous scoring high was 20 in a 115-104 win over GlobalPort last Christmas Day.

But then again, his numbers went for naught as NLEX dropped its second straight match after starting the season with two wins in a row.

“(It all went) down the drain. But yeah, we have to wake up. After 2-0 now we’re 2-2. We have to fight for survival,” he said. “Grabe yung dikdikan ng standings ngayon eh. Lahat talaga naghahabol sa panalo.”

“Another tough game on Friday, (against) San Miguel,” Ravena added. “We have to forget this (loss) and we have to pick up the lessons we’ve learned, (know) what we did wrong, and to apply it (against) San Miguel.”
