One player was mysteriously missing from Rain or Shine's totally-dominating win over Phoenix Wednesday in the PBA Philippine Cup.
12 players saw at least nine minutes of action in the Elasto Painters' 21-point victory. However, star center Raymond Almazan was DNP-CD.
Coach Caloy Garcia offered an explanation regarding the matter in his post-game talk with the media.
"Hindi kasi nakapag-practice the last two days so sabi namin pahinga na lang muna," he said of Almazan missing action.
While that's good and all, there's another reason for Almazan's sudden absence.
Apparently, following Rain or Shine's disappointing loss to Globalport last week, coach and player got into it a little bit, causing some slight friction.
"Actually, after the loss against Global, medyo nagka-anuhan lang kami but I think everything is good right now," Garcia said.
"Well syempre, frustration. We know that he can perform better than the way he did against Global. Actually I told Raymond before the start of this season that one of my goals was to basically make him a double-double player. Yun yung target ko nung simula. But the way he played against Global, I felt that it wasn't Raymond," he added.
Against the Batang Pier, Almazan played 22 and a half minutes, scoring only two points and grabbed four rebounds.
That's obviously not a double-double.
Fortunately, it seems that everything is well now and Almazan practiced prior to the game against the Fuel Masters. The 6'7" center is expected to be back for Rain or Shine's next game.
"So ayun, medyo napagalitan, nagkatampuhan but that's it. I think kasama naman sa trabaho namin yun eh," Garcia said.
