Calvin Abueva and Raymond Almazan were dropped by Chot Reyes for failing to attend practice.
Calvin Abueva and Raymond Alamzan being dropped from the pool of Gilas Pilipinas is official, that's for sure.
However, it has to be clear that the two are only out for the second window of the 2019 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers.
Meaning Abueva and Almazan will not play for the Philippines against Australia and Japan next month. But, they can always play themselves back in just in time for the June-July window against the Boomers and Chinese Taipei.
There are no replacements for the two, for now.
"I think what's important lang nga is officially for this window, this February window, the window number 2 of the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers na na-drop muna si Calvin at si Raymond," team manager Butch Antonio said Monday.
"With regard to replacing I'm not sure but I guess with the PBA there, if coach Chot and the coaching staff feel that they need to replace, then we can always make representation with the Commissioner's office," he added.
Abueva and Almazan were dropped by Chot Reyes for failing to attend practice.
Gilas Pilipinas has had three training sessions so far in 2018 and the two players missed all of them.
"Si Calvin mentioned that he has a hamstring injury. Raymond I'm not sure. Sinabi sakin kanina that he was trying to call me, I didn't get naman any call," Antonio said.
"Si Matt [Matthew Wright], Matt's not feeling well. Matt's been here past two practices naman eh so yung dalawa lang talaga," he added.
