Well, Kia is back to being an unconventional basketball team.

Meralco got out of its 2018 PBA Philippine Cup slump Wednesday, issuing a 105-76 sound beating to the Picanto at the Araneta Coliseum.

It was a slow grind for the Bolts but a huge second-quarter effort was the most telling difference of the game as Meralco rose to 2-3 in the standings, finally shutting down a recent three-game slide.

Four players finished in double figures for Meralco as the team collectively shot 50 percent from the field.

"It was nice to see my players play with a lot of effort tonight. We played with a little bit of purpose and defense right from the very starr and it carried over for the entire game," head coach Norman Black said.

"I just thought we just had more energy and effort tonight  than last game. Offensively, we were a lot smooter and got everybody involved," he added.

Tied at 21 late in the opening period, the Bolts unloaded a 15-0 run that extended all the way into the second quarter to take full control of the game.

From then on, Meralco just kept pounding Kia, leading by as many as 34 points late in the fourth, 104-70.

Veteran KG Canaleta fired 17 points to lead the Bolts while another vet in Jared Dillinger came away with 13. The point guard duo of Anjo Caram and Baser Amer scored 12 and 10 points respectively.

For the Picanto, who now dropped to 1-5 for the season, Rashawn McCarthy led the way with 17 points but 13 came during the opening half of play.
