San Miguel will have to traverse a part of its Philippine Cup title defense without start guard Alex Cabagnot.

The veteran playmaker missed the Beermen's win over Globalport Wednesday at the Big Dome. It turns out that he has a foot injury to deal with for the time being.

Per head coach Leo Austria, Cabagnot has plantar fasciitis and might be out for a considerable amount of time.

"According to the doctor, he will be missing 3-4 weeks and probably next month pa sya makakalaro," he said.

"But we’ll do our best na pagalingin agad. We’re not in a hurry for him to get back but what we want is for him to get to 100 percent. Dahil going to the playoffs, it’s really hard if we don’t have Alex Cabagnot," Austria added.

Fortunately, it appears that Cabagnot can afford no to do surgery.

It's just a matter of rest and recovery for him at his point.

"Hindi naman, kailangan lang nyang mag-heal yung kaunting partial tear and I think because of his work ethic, it would be easy for him to get back into shape," Austria said of Cabagnot.

"Right now, he’s still working out para hindi sya mawala sa kanyang pinakamamahal na conditioning. We want to give him rest because we don’t want to aggravate his situation right now," he added.
