Introducing the new Commissioner of the PBA, Willie Marcial.
Aside from his new job as PBA Commissioner, a post he will handle for three years, Willie Marcial will also retain his position as PBA Media Director.
That is according to returning league chairman Ricky Vargas of TNT.
"The highlight of the discussion is the appointmen of our Commissioner, permanent Commissioner of the PBA," Vargas said, talking about Marcial and the PBA Board meeting that took place Thursday that made the announement official.
"He's given a term of three years, concurrently, he will also be the media director of the PBA, a job he has handled for many, many years," Vargas added.
The promotion of Marcial to Commissioner was unanimous according the Vargas and the PBA Board is all in for its support for the new man of the hour.
"It was an appointment without any objections, the Board gave the go signal without any objections," Vargas said.
"We are happy for Willie, we wish him well. We are happy for the PBA," he added.
Ultimately, it seems that the PBA Board was sold on Marcial for the fact that the newly-appointed Commissioner has been in the league for many years, mastering the PBA inside out and learning under various Commissioners before him.
"It is important that we have somebody there who understands, who grew up in the PBA, who understands the PBA," Vargas said.
"He's probably the one who has learned [most] over the years in the PBA, learning with various types of Commissioners. He has learned so much what that entails so he will bring that experience, he will bring that demeaner as opposed to getting a fresh candidate," the league Chairman added.
With the appointment of a new Commissioner, everyone in the league looks forward to the PBA being actually "back" and Marcial will be at the helm.
"The PBA is back, I've heard that in social media. Maraming salamat kay Willie dyan. I'm getting excited to see people in the venue really enjoying the games," Vargas said.
"So hindi na Willie Marcial, Commissioner Marcial na, hindi na OIC," he added.
