From the top of the standings, Kiefer Ravena and NLEX now find themselves 11th out of 12 teams
NLEX was the feel-good story of the first month of the 2018 PBA Philippine Cup with back-to-back convincing victories to start the season.
Once the calendar turned from 2017 to 2018, however, the Road Warriors have gotten nothing but bad ending after bad ending after bad ending after bad ending.
After dropping a sorry 86-97 loss to Rain or Shine on Friday, NLEX now finds itself 11th out of 12 in the standings with a 2-4 record.
Taking their time, about an hour to be exact, inside the dugout after the game, Kiefer Ravena said that despite their current downward spiral, they remain upbeat. “Palalim nang palalim yung hukay, pero we have to be positive about this,” he told reporters.
Now, the second overall pick in last year’s draft didn’t exactly have specifics, but said that together is the only way they will be able find an answer to their current woes. “I don’t know how, but we still have five more games and we have to find a way to help each other out. It can’t be just one or two guys stepping up every other game,” he said.
He then continued, “We have to be consistent together as a team. Kailangan naming maghanap nang paraan para manalo.”
Ravena and NLEX have Ginebra, Meralco, Alaska, Blackwater, and TNT up next in their slate.
And one thing’s for sure, those five teams, like the four before them, will not be taking the Road Warriors lightly. “I guess every team (has) just prepared for us more. We won our first two games so sabi nila siguro na ‘Uy, ‘di na pushover ‘tong NLEX na ‘to,’” the first-year point guard shared.
He then continued, “Tapos at the same time, we got full of ourselves na ‘Okay, kaya na nating manalo.’ Yun yun kailangan naming ayusin.”
Without a doubt, “The Phenom” and upstart NLEX were able to take their first two opponents – Kia and Globalport – by surprise, but will need much more now that everybody knows just how good they are.
