Alaska star Calvin Abueva was missing Saturday as the Aces battled Blackwater in the 2018 PBA Philippine Cup.

The Beast was warming up for the match but didn't end up playing at all. Early reports said that Calvin had to leave the Araneta Coliseum to deal with a "personal emergency."

And after Alaska wrapped up a close 88-84 win over the Elite, head coach Alex Compton confirmed that his star forward did indeed excuse himself to deal with a family problem.

A family problem that will remain private.

"Alaska's always been family first. I will never get in the way of somebody taking care of something important with their family," Compton said on his post-game talk when asked about Abeuva's absence.

"Hope you guys can appreciate the private and internal nature of that, I've spoken to some of you about him missing some practices but our rule is if there's something going on with your family, it's an emergency, you don't even need to call me. You take care of your family right away and then you let me know as soon as you can," he added.

While Compton refused to give anything about any specific reason regarding Abueva's sudden absence, he says that he and the team understands.

He also adds that the Aces are standing behind Abueva and hopes that whatever the Beast is going through will be taken care of in due time.

"So he was here and you know, I'll be the same way with my family. If something happens I'm gone," Compton said.

"That's just not a question. We're a family-first franchise, it's one of the things that makes me proud to be part of Alaska. We obviously missed Calvin but the other guys stepped up in his absence and we're just praying for him," he added.

With this development, even Compton can't say when Abueva will return to action. The only sure thing is that Alaska has Calvin's back.

"I don't know. Like I said we'll always going to be family first. If you guys don't see me for a week, it's because of my family. There's nothing more important than that so yeah, God bless him and we're praying for him," Compton said.
