"Yung mentality namin coming into this game is really to find ways how to… step up our defense namin," --- LA Tenorio.
Entering its Philippine Cup Finals rematch against San Miguel, Brgy. Ginebra has lost three straight games.
In those three games, the Gin Kings trailed by double digits each time and their signature NSD didn't exactly work to get a victory.
Against the Beermen, Ginebra was in trouble again as San Miguel raced to a 16-point lead right in the opening period.
However, the Gin Kings knew what to do this time around.
"Yung mentality namin coming into this game is really to find ways how to… step up our defense namin," LA Tenorio said.
"To defend talaga as much as we can. Medyo binagalan namin yung game kasi to help our defense. Nung una medyo nahihirapan kami kasi June Mar, talagang kinakain niya yung lahat ng players namin. Nilaro lang namin. We stayed in the game, inunti-unti lang namin," he added.
Aside from erasing an early deficit, Tenorio is proud to see his bench produce this time around.
With Ginebra missing Greg Slaughter and Joe Devance, the Gin Kings got big games from Raymond Aguilar, Jervy Cruz, and Kevin Ferrer.
This give LA hope that the Gin Kings can only get better once they field a healthy line up.
"I think more than the win ngayon, aside from winning against San Miguel, nakita ko dito yung pag step-up ng bench—Raymond, Jervy, sina Kev, ‘di ba? Kasi kailangan talaga namin sila pagdating ng playoffs, or pagdating ng crucial times ng games, ng conference or ng season," he said.
"Pag kumpleto na kami, diba, mas lalalim pa yung bench namin. This is really an opportunity for them na mag step up talaga," Tenorio added.
