Derrick Pumaren's fashion and experience have relocated to Centro Escolar University
The newfound fashion sense of Derrick Pumaren is still here.
He just has a new runway to walk on.
The seasoned tactician has a new role in a new school – general manager for basketball operations for Centro Escolar University.
According to Pumaren, it was the Yap family, owners of CEU, who approached him for this new post. “They just want me to help them out and make some crucial basketball decisions to be able to go to the next level,” he said.
Along with his years and years of experience, Pumaren has brought his youthful look over to Mendiola.
Before moving on from the University of the East, the long-known-to-be strict disciplinarian showed a different side of him last season in the UAAP.
Then, he said he needed to lead by example. “We have to have swag and I have to be the one to set the tone,” he said.
Now, Pumaren looks to also be bringing the same sort of swag to the Scorpions. “The last time (CEU) won the D-League was in 2015 and after that, medyo naging stagnant sila. They asked me if I can join the team and probably inject some new blood to help them get on the next level,” he said.
To be able to do just that without having to worry about X’s and O’s is nothing but much welcome for the new general manager for basketball operations. “There’s less pressure, that’s one good thing about it. Sa akin, it’s more of suggestions and inputs, pero final decision is still the coach,” he said.
