PBA referees and barker suspended, Ross fined after free throw controversy

PBA referees and barker suspended, Ross fined
Ross didn't escape punishment as well as the San Miguel was fined a total of P25,800 for issuing statements detrimental to the league and getting two techical fouls in the game.

The PBA has taken action with regards to the controversy and confusion that marred the end of the San Miguel-Ginebra game last Sunday.

With 4.5 seconds to go, Chris Ross attempted a free throw that was supposed to be intended for teammate Chico Lanete. Ross was later called for a technical and the Beermen ended up losing.

Video replay showed that the referee handed the ball to Ross and it was announced by the coliseum barker that it was Ross that was to take the free throw. It was wrong on both ends, still.

With that being said, the league on Tuesday has suspended scorer Lito Mendegoria as well as Noel Zarate, the game's barker. Also suspended are the four officials [Borja, Mariano, Guevarra, and Montoya] that worked the game.

Ross didn't escape punishment as well as the San Miguel was fined a total of P25,800 for issuing statements detrimental to the league and getting two techical fouls in the game.

Also receiving a fine was TNT Troy Rosario for a flagrant foul penalty 1 against Magnolia. The KaTropa forward had to pay P5,000 for that.
