Aces steamroll Phoenix to stretch streak to five games
Keeping its record clean in the new year, Alaska is now 5-2 in the standings, half a game back from first place.

Alaska is just tearing it up in 2018.

The Aces rolled to their fifth straight victory in the PBA Philippine Cup, making quick work of Phoenix, 93-75, Wednesday at the MOA Arena.

Keeping its record clean in the new year, Alaska is now 5-2 in the standings, half a game back from first place.

The Aces absolutely shut down Phoenix in the first half, limiting the Fuel Masters to just 24 points (12 in each quarter) to put the game away early.

By the second half, it was just cruise control for the Aces as the team led by as many as 27 points in the game, 87-60.

"Looking back in the first half, we gave up 24 points. It's just one of those halves, where I thought our defense had of lot of teeth," head coach Alex Compton.

"That was really the story of the game. After that, it’s more of like maintaining the lead and not let them get too close within striking distance. They had a good run to start the fourth quarter then we just have to settle down and change some stuff. It’s a big win for us.  I didn’t expect this," he added.

Chris Banchero led the team in scoring, firing 22 points while Calvin Abueva, playing his first game back from a "family emergency" and is sporting a new jersey number, drilled 21 points on top of 14 rebounds.

For the Fuel Masters, it was Matthew Wright that led the way with 16 points but he only shot 31.8 percent from the field. As a team, Phoenix only shot 33.3 percent.

The loss put the Fuel Masters to 3-4 in the standings.
