Despite a pedestrian outing overall, Ian Sangalang was the one that played hero for Magnolia in the Hotshots' close win over Blackwater Friday in the 2018 PBA Philippine Cup.

Sangalang only scored eight points in the game, but he was the one that hit the final go-ahead basket for Magnolia in the final minute to break a 72-all tie.

"Kumpyansa lang at tiwala sa sarili," Ian said on his eventual game winner.

"Yung positive mindset na kaya ko pag binunot ako, ready ako," he added.

On the defensive end, it was also Sangalang that made the biggest stop of the contest for the Hotshots, forcing Mac Belo into a crucial backcourt violation.

While Belo was not first first assignment on defense, Sangalang made sure to make the stop if and when the Hotshots were forced to switch.

And when the switch did happen, the former NCAA MVP out of San Sebastian did his job to perfection.

"Yung gameplan namin is to switch. Nung unang switch namin naka-shoot siya, so sabi ko, pag nag-switch kami ready na ako kahit anong mangyari. Di ko pai-iscorin to," Sangalang said.

"Nag-gamble na talaga ako, pag nadrive-an ako, hahabol ako tapos foul ako so yun, ang ginawa ko talaga, sumugal na ako na ganun [going for the steal] yung gawin ko. Pag umatras ako, lagi akong naddrive-an kaya ganun ang ginawa ko," he added.
