San Miguel regains top spot after comeback win over Magnolia
The Beermen regained the number 1 spot with this comeback, improving to 6-1, half a game ahead of Magnolia and Alaska.

ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal --- San Miguel is back in first place.

The three-time defending champion Beermen escaped with a 77-76 win over Magnolia Sunday in the 2018 PBA Philippine Cup at the Ynares Center here.

Down by as many as 16, San Miguel went to work in the fourth period, clamping down on the Hotshots to snap Magnolia's five-game winning run.

The Beermen regained the number 1 spot with this comeback, improving to 6-1, half a game ahead of Magnolia and Alaska.

"Sa start we were shocked with the defense they had, based on our experience last six games, it's not that physical pero tonight, it's very intense," head coach Leo Austria said.

"If we lose this game, mag-slide kami but now were back at number one. It's really hard to lose a game because every game is very important," he added

Magnolia pounded on the Beermen early, taking a 10-point lead at the break. The Hotshots' defense was still effective midway through the third period and Magnolia had its largest lead of the night at 1, 56-40.

However, San Miguel would claw its way back, making it an eight-point game to start the fourth quarter.

In the final 12 minutes, the Beermen just overwhelmed Magnolia and hit just enough shots to hold on for the win.

Four-time league MVP June Mar Fajardo had a monster game, going for 19 points and 21 rebounds while Chris Ross fired 15 points on top of eight boards and four assists.

Chico Lanete added 14 points for San Miguel and Marcio Lassiter came away with 12 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.

Magnolia, now tied with Alaska for second place with a 6-2 mark, got 21 points from Mark Barroca.
