Akeem Scott and super Saigon continue to have defending champion Hong Kong’s number in the 2017-2018 Asean Basketball League.

Scott dropped 38 points while also stuffing the stat sheet to tow the home team Heat past Eastern, 118-115, in another overtime classic on Sunday at the CIS Arena in Ho Chi Minh City.

For the second straight game, the two teams needed an extra period to settle the score.

There, the home team raced to a 5-0 start and a 108-103 lead they would nurse until Filipino-German Christian Standhardinger pulled the defending champions to within 113-116 with 29 ticks to go on the clock.

Hong Kong would be unable to get any closer, however, as the Vietnamese defense forced a missed jumper from Marcus Elliott and then a turnover from Standhardinger the rest of the way.

With that, Hong Kong fell for just the second time in 11 games – both times at the hands of Saigon.

Scott was a star for the Heat yet again and also tallied 38 points, eight rebounds, six steals, and five assists.

Backing him up were Maxie Esho wo had 27 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks as well as Filipino-American Mikey Williams who had 23 markers, nine boards, five assists, and three steals.

With another upset of powerhouse Eastern, the Heat now stand at 5-5 – well within striking distance of fourth-running 8-4 Alab Pilipinas.

For Hong Kong, Standhardinger topped the scoring column with 31 points on top of 18 rebounds.
